How to Create a Selective Coloring Effect in Photoshop

In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a selective coloring effect easily in just a few simple steps.

You’ll need:
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3+ (I used CS5)
Step 1
Open the image you want to use. I will be using this stock photo.

Now, use a selection tool to select the main subject of your image. Here, I will use the Pen Tool to select the Easter eggs.

Now, we will invert the selection by going to Select > Inverse.

Step 3
Finally, we will add a Black & White Adjustment Layer. Click on the New Adjustment Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.

Select Black & White from the list.

If you wish, you can further customize the adjustment layer through the Adjustments panel.
