Dwight Praylow has been a UPS driver for 15 years and always delivered packages to Nancy McCummings’ disabled son. After her son died in 2013, she was left all alone, having outlived all of her children.
When he found out that a flood had damaged her home and left her with a roach infestation that made her home inhabitable, he knew he had to do something to help.

“To me it goes back to that saying, it takes a village to raise a child,” Praylow told WLTX19. “So when that child gets to be elderly, who is going to take care of them. So to me it’s a reach back kind of thing.”
Praylow enlisted the help of his twin brother, some friends, and some customers to start a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her to stay in a hotel and make repairs to her home.

“Financially it was one of those things where everyone donated and every dollar or five dollars added up,” Praylow said.
Praylow and his buddies got rid of the roaches and all of the unusable furniture. They also cleaned the walls with bleach, primed and repainted them.

“They worked all day Easter here,” said McCummings. “So I really appreciate it to have these young guys with that kind of heart they showed. And I adopted them now as my boys.”
Praylow said he was pleased to be able to help McCummings and continue to get to hear her infectious laugh. McCummings was overjoyed with the results of the repairs.
“I told them this isn’t my house,” she said. “I’ve never lived here before, and they laughed because it is phenomenal what they did.”
There is still more work to be done and they are still looking to purchase some more furniture and a refrigerator.

“With a few more hands getting on board, we can show the miracle of what the village can do to take care of the people in our community who can’t take care of themselves,” Praylow said.
