15 Mascara Tips and Tricks for Killer Lashes
Loosen hardened mascara by placing the tube in a cup of hot water for a minute or two. The liquid will fall to the bottom where you can reach it with the wand.
Bend the mascara wand to make it easier to control and apply to your lashes.
Never get mascara on your eyeshadow again! Use this business card trick: place the card behind your lashes to protect the lid while you apply mascara. You may want to cut the business card to curve it a little to make it even easier.
A spoon works well for this, too. Use it bowl-side down on the lower lashes, and bowl-side up on the upper lashes.
Fix clumpy mascara with a few drops of Visine. Who knew?
For seriously voluminous lashes, apply one coat of mascara, use a q-tip to dust some baby powder over your lashes, and then add another coat of mascara. I can't believe this one really works, but it's great!
Remove even waterproof mascara with ease by using coconut oil and witch hazel. It's so gentle on the eyes!
Mascara can double as eyeliner in a pinch. Use your makeup brush to apply it to your lash line. Really creamy mascaras work best for this trick.
Use a clean toothbrush to unclump mascara. The toothbrush is actually a great beauty tool, so it's a good idea to keep a few extras on hand, anyway.
Heat your eyelash curler to give them a little extra oomph when curling.
And speaking of curling the lashes, do it while you apply your first coat of mascara.
Apply Vaseline to your lashes (using an old mascara wand) to help them grow.
Worried about the ingredients in commercial mascaras? Make your own! You can even add a couple drops of essential oil to help moisturize your lashes (and it'll smell great, too).
Want your lashes to look thicker? Coat the back with mascara. I never knew to do this until now, but it totally makes sense.
And, finally, learn how to properly clean your mascara brush. A dirty brush is unsanitary and can cause eye infections, not to mention clumpy mascara to boot.
