In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to turn a picture into a drawing in a few simple and easy steps.
You’ll need:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Woman picture
Step 1
Open the picture.
Now, crop the picture as shown below. Then, using the Polygonal Lasso Tool, cut out the lady’s silhouette.
Step 2
Choose some suitable colors like orange (#69360e) and black (#6d0000). Now, create a new layer below the current layer and select Filter > Render > Clouds.
Now, go back to the layer with the picture of the woman. Select the Eraser Tool and using a soft round brush with a small diameter, erase some parts of her hair to make the border between the background and the lady softer.
Let’s reduce the red hue now. Press Ctrl+J to duplicate the current layer, go to Image > Adjustments > Color Balance and use the settings shown below.
We’ll now reduce the blue color on the photo by using the Eraser Tool.
Step 3
Merge all layers except for the background layer. Now, duplicate the background layer and place it above all the other layers.
Flip this layer by selecting Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate to lower the saturation of this layer.
Select the Eraser Tool and using a soft round brush, erase parts of the background as shown below.
Change the layer blending mode of the current layer to Hard Light.
Step 4
Create a new layer and using a soft round brush of 20-30% opacity, make a few strokes with white and black to increase the contrast between the light and dark areas.
Now, change the layer blending mode of the current layer to Overlay.
Duplicate this layer and change the new layer’s blending mode to Soft Light and keep its opacity at 30%.
Step 5
Create a new layer, press D to set default colors and select Filter > Render > Clouds.
Let’s add some noise by going to Filter > Noise > Add Noise.
Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and apply a blur with the following settings.
Now, go to Filter > Blur > Smart Blur and use the values shown below.
To remove the sharp edges, go to Edit > Transform > Scale and increase the size of the canvas.
Change the layer blending mode of the current layer to Overlay.
Step 6
We’ll now reduce the strong contrast by creating an adjustment layer. Select Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and use the values shown below.
Now, create a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer by going to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Channel Mixer and use the settings shown below.
Finally, create an Exposure Adjustment Layer by going to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Exposure and use the settings shown below.
And we’re done!
