The students of one of the classes in a Bethlehem high school in New Hampshire were thrilled to go on a traditional four-day school trip to Rydin’ Hi Ranch in New York, but they quickly set their plans aside when they heard that their principal Courtney Vashaw was battling an aggressive form of cancer. Instead of going on the trip, they would much rather collect the money and donate it to their principal to help pay for her medical treatment.

One of the students, Ian Baker, said the following: “We decided to not go on our senior class trip this year and donate all of our funds to your cause.”

Classmate Hunter Leighton also shared his thoughts: “She is one of the strongest, most determined women I know, and if it can happen to her, you know anything can happen to anyone.”

When the students told Courtney about their plans, she couldn’t keep her eyes dry. WMUR was able to film the moment, and the students’ huge revelation left her absolutely speechless.

It is very hard for me to accept help, and I have no idea what to say to you” were the words that came of out her mouth. Vashaw originally wasn’t planning on telling her students but felt like she needed to explain her future absence. Only one week later, the students surprised her with their heartwarming effort.

Varshaw said: “They are (a) pretty remarkable, fun, astonishing group of people”. They all agreed unanimously to donate a sum of 8000 dollars for their principal’s treatment.

As if their act of kindness wasn’t impressive enough, they wouldn’t stop there. They all organized a car show a couple of weeks later and all the proceeds were collected to help Courtney. They also set up a GoFundMe page for her, as the medical costs are estimated to be very high.
Despite not going on their large school trip, the students have enjoyed themselves on a low-key weekend trip with the entire class.
