Most people aim to choose one major career during their lifetimes, but Myron Rolle is not like the rest. The former pro-NFL football player is an accomplished athlete that is currently studying to be a doctor; he was recently confirmed to start his residency at Harvard.
The educated athlete had always longed to be a doctor, but his athletic prowess showcased themselves early; in high school, he was rated the #1 football prospect in the entire U.S, and eventually played college football at Florida State.

From there, his prowess quickly caught the eyes of the NFL franchise, and became drafted by the Tennessee Titans and then the Steelers. After being released by the Steelers in the 2012 season, he decided to soul search and figure out where his passions lay.
It was then that he decided to pursue an ever bigger goal yet and go into neurosurgery.
“I talked to my family, brothers, and pastors asking them what they thought,” he explained about his decision. “I still received interest from a few teams, and it didn’t have to be over. Then I said to myself, ‘I can knock my head against the wall for 8-9 years or move on to medicine.’ I was leaving the game with no concussions and dexterity in both my hands, where I could be a neurosurgeon one day.”

As if all of that wasn’t enough, he’s also the chairman of his own organization -Myron L. Rolle Foundation- which aims to help underserved geographies in health, wellness, and education. One of their big projects is “the Myron Rolle Wellness and Leadership Academy for Florida foster children, the “Rhodes to Success” (an academic workshop for at-risk teenagers) and the “Our Way to Health” (an anti-obesity program for American Indians of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo tribes).”

Rolle is a true inspiration when it comes to his dedication to bettering himself as well as the people around him. He finally notes about his decision to become a doctor, he explained to WCTV in Tallahassee on Friday, March 17th.
“Seven years of neurosurgery is a big deal, something I wanted for a long time, really excited about it. Today is just great, it’s remarkable… Saving lives and helping people live a better life, that’s going to make life worth living.”
