9 Big Lies Vegetarians Really Enjoy Telling

Before I start with this I want to say that I have nothing against vegetarians.

I think they are great and I always wanted to try their way of living.
Sometimes they lie. Sorry for sounding too rude.
The right definition would be they are avoiding to tell the truth about certain stuff connected to food because they don’t know the real thing.
Vegetarians are like a family. When you talk about food in general, they say that vegetarian food saves the living world and makes them really healthy.
That’s not quite true.
If you have vegetarian friends you can rest assured because they are the most loyal people I’ve ever known.

I think there are two reasons why people become vegetarians:
  • They don’t want animal cruelty
  • There are extremely high health benefits of being vegetarian
The misunderstanding and misinformation of some vegetarians I mentioned before led to sharing the wrong picture about the whole thing.
If you look closely at this vegetarian diet, you will find that it is one of the most strict diets ever.
As you know, it restricts you from eating animal products of all kinds and also forbids you from eating trans fats, refined sugar, processed grains and vegetable oils.
That’s okay, right? – It looks very natural and healthy. I mean, it forbids refined sugar and other unhealthy products.
At first, everything looks awesome and perfect.
Let’s see what lies vegans enjoy telling and should be corrected.

There are more proteins in veggies than in meat.

It’s not important how truthful this looks like. There is no way veggies contain more proteins than meat.
Vegetarians just want to believe it’s like that. The source provided me with a list of protein packed foods (meat) compared with the vegan protein sources.
Shall we?

Can you spot the difference?

Our Ancestors were all vegan so why should we be different?

This is true, but there is a perfect explanation behind that.
According to World Wildlife gorillas eat “mainly” a vegetarian diet. They eat stems, shoots, fruits, and bamboo.
Another article published in the Huffington Post, apes in the wild don’t suffer from heart disease, obesity, or diabetes.
Out of all this, vegetarians conclude that there is no way they can catch a disease or be obsessed with vegetarian diet.
What about the fact that apes have a longer digestive tract than humans do? This allows them to get all the needed nutrients from the plants. It’s right there in the article.
Our shorter digestive tract requires a higher amount of protein to make sure our body is well equipped to perform through the day.
The only thing we can learn from our primitive ancestors is that we need to eat more veggies and fruits, avoid processed foods, quit sugar, and consume lean sources of proteins.

Humans Are Not Meant to be Carnivores

Yes. Some people believe we shouldn’t be omnivores. It’s not in our nature.
They think we are programmed and destined to be vegetarians.
Since we don’t have sharp teeth, we lack claws, and we lack strong hydrochloric acid in our stomach to digest the meat, we were programmed to eat fruits and veggies.
This makes sense. This seems true. Right?

Not quite. We don’t eat the meat raw. We cook it. We don’t have bodies as the carnivores in the wild. This only means that we evolved enough to learn how to cook and eat meat.
Eating meat and gaining all of its nutrients have enlarged and boosted our evolutionary development. We became omnivores to be able to eat plants, meat, and everything that could come in between.

Vegans Get Enough Healthy Fat

Your body is a temple. However, there is one feature that lacks here: to produce essential fatty acids.
Since we are unable to do that, we need to consume it through the food we digest. There are 3 main omega-3 fatty acids:
  •      ALA – Alpha-linolenic Acid
  •      EPA – Eicosapentaenoic Acid
  •      DHA – Docosahexaenoic Acid
EPA and DHA are found in fatty fish. They are available right away. ALA occurs in foods like nuts and seeds.
With that being said, you have to know that our bodies have a harder time converting ALA into usable forms like DHA and EPA.
Essential fatty acids are really important for our body. They make our brain function properly. The lack of fatty acids could lead to depression, cognitive impairment and developing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Vegans Get All of Their Nutrients From Plants Without the Help of Supplements

What about vitamin B12?
This vitamin is not found in anything that comes out of the ground.
Our body requires only a microgram of B12 every day. We get more of that by eating animal based foods. The best part is that the excess of this vitamin is not flushed away from our system, but stored.
Vegetarians don’t know that this storage vanishes over time and B12 is critical in ensuring that all of our cells function properly.

According to Drew Ramsey, an assistant clinical professor at Columbia University, over 50% of tested vegans came out deficient in Vitamin B12. This puts them at a great risk of mental health such as fatigue, decreased brain volume, poor concentration and speed up aging.
Vegans are also low in Vitamin D. And you already know how crucial is to consume it for bone and dental health, preventing tissue damage and regulating the nervous system.

Vegans Never Develop Heart or Cancer Disease.

This is also true. Only a part of it.
Vegans are also at risk of developing a certain type of cancer.
Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Omega-3s, and yogurt have been named as foods that decrease the chances of getting cancer. The vegan diet doesn’t provide us with these foods.

Vegan Food is Healthier

If some food has an animal origin, it doesn’t mean it’s not healthy.
Take butter for example. Butter is made of butterfat, milk proteins, and water. Nothing else.
Vegetarians avoid eating it because it’s an animal product.
They use faux butter Earth Balance, which has a natural name and advertising logo, aimed at vegans.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients of this butter.
  •      Palm Fruit Oil
  •      Canola Oil
  •      Soybean oil
  •      Flax Oil
  •      Sunflower lecithin
  •      Lactic acid
  •      “Naturally Extracted” food color
You can be the judge of this.
Eating Vegan is Cheaper Than Animal Products
Antonia Noori Farzan has broken down the cost of being vegan.
She was spending $270 a month on groceries, but this cost jumped to $375 when she became a vegan.
People think the vegetarian diet includes only fruits and vegetables. That’s not expensive. The cost jumps from the other vegan approved replacements.

It’s Becoming Easier to be a Vegan

The vegan diet became very popular with all the celebrities giving their recipes on the Internet.
A research says that 7.5 million people in the US are now on a vegetarian diet. This number is high, but it’s still 2.5% of the population.
The trend is upwards, but vegans still have a long way to go. They still have hard times eating with their non-vegetarian friends and family.
What do you think about this?
There are millions of other healthy ways to reach your healthy and weight loss goals.
Don’t forget to share this with your friends.
