Family is trapped after floodwater flips truck, then a group of strangers comes to their rescue

The Texas floodwaters began to take over the roadways, leaving cars submerged and families stranded. The tornadoes that were pummeling the region claimed more than 14 lives in May of this year and threatened to take more had it not been for the work of a few Good Samaritans.
Tom Mitchell of Myrtle Springs, Texas, saw an overturned pickup truck in a flooded street near his home, and immediately went to help. When he came to the truck, he noticed that a family was still trapped inside.

Unable to personally pry the doors open against the rushing flood waters, he called to other bystanders to help crack the windows. Tom began filming the rescue on his cellphone.
Witnesses helped save the father, toddler, and infant that were trapped in the overturned vehicle, but when they went to grab the infant they noticed that she wasn’t breathing. With time running out, Tom decided to put the phone away and begin CPR.

“This baby is gonna die if we don’t start CPR fast,” Tom told WFAA. “Having a negative feeling coming over me. This baby may not make it, this baby may not make it. No reaction, nothing is happening.”
A woman who was looking over Tom’s shoulder began praying for the baby, and in that moment Tom says he could feel a bit of life return to the baby.
“Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” she prayed. “Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe.”

“Well the first prayer she said, I felt a response in that child,” Tom said.

Once the infant was beginning to breathe on her own, they quickly turned their attention to the toddler, who was also struggling to breathe. They were able to revive him as well, making two incredible saves in just a matter of minutes.
“I think it shows how the community and strangers all come together,” Tom said when asked why he felt compelled to share his story.

The rescued family told WFAA that their two children are now on the mend, thanks in large part to the Good Samaritans who stopped in the rushing floodwaters to make the rescue.
