Is Your Olive Oil Fake? – Here is How to Check that Up

When you go to the market, there are hundreds of olive oil brands. You just can’t decide which one to pick.
I know. I’ve been there.
Even when you pick one you don’t know if that’s the right one for you. Then, there are some thoughts asking if this one is fake.
Well, I only know that there is something wrong with the cheaper one.
Not long ago I was reading an article about some company being caught for fake olive oil. They were mixing it up or diluting with soybean oil so that it can be cheaper.

Someone will say olive oil is olive oil and the price doesn’t matter. Maybe it’s like that, but keep in mind that it doesn’t have the same health benefits like the original one.
There are a couple of things you can do in order to recognize a fake olive oil.
Here we go:

Taste and Smell

Real olive oil can be identified by the taste and smell. You don’t need to be an expert to tell the difference in tastes. If it smells moldy, winey or musty it’s probably not a real olive oil.
Before you buy any oil, get familiar with the taste and smell, so the next time you buy one you will be able to notice if it doesn’t smell right
Don’t forget that olive oil comes in different flavors and smells. This way of recognizing real olive oil can be pretty tricky.

Fridge Test

If you want to tell whether the olive oil is real or not, you can try this test.
The olive oil comes high in monounsaturated fats. This means, if you put the olive oil in the fridge, the olive oil will become very cloudy and thick.
However, this test is not always reliable. Many manufactures winterize their product. This means they remove all the agents what cause the oil to get thicken up, so people who live in cold climates can use it.
This test is very useful, but it’s not totally accurate.

Why is fake olive oil not good for you?

Maybe these tests are not accurate, but they will help you when you are picking up pure olive oil.
My way of choosing the right olive oil is by choosing the most expensive one. Sometimes brands can go through the roof with their prices, but pick the one that’s within your budget.
Health doesn’t come with a price!
Don’t forget to share this with your friends. They need to stay away from fake oil, too.
