How to Create a Changing Landscape Effect

This tutorial will teach you how to create a changing landscape effect. The steps are very easy and you can use them with any picture you want.

You’ll need:
Step 1
Open the image and reduce its size to 669px height and 1000px width by going to Image > Image Size.

Step 2
Duplicate the background layer twice by pressing Ctrl+J and hide the background layer by pressing the layer visibility icon (the eye) in the layers palette. Now, change the layer blending mode of the topmost layer to Color Burn.

Press Ctrl+J to duplicate the layer again and change its blending mode to Screen.

Step 4
Select Layer > Merge Visible to merge all of the visible layers. Now, go to Image > Adjustments > Color Balance and use the following settings.

Step 5
Press Ctrl+J to duplicate this layer, go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and make the following changes.

Step 6
Change the layer blending mode of the current layer to Saturation.

Step 7
Now, make the background layer visible again by clicking on the layer visibility icon and select Layer > New > Layer to make a layer from the background layer. Move the new layer above all the other layers.

Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and use the settings shown below.

Step 9
Choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool and select the left part of the image.

Go to Edit > Transform > Warp and drag the upper right corner inwards as shown below.

Do the same to the other side of the photo.

Step 12
We will now darken the areas under the folded corners. Create a new layer and change its blending mode to Soft Light. Select an 80px soft-edged brush of black color and 50% opacity and paint under the folded corners as shown below. We’ll first work with one side.

To increase contrast, select the Brush Tool with the same settings but with white color and lighten the corners and edges as shown below.

Now, repeat the above two steps on the other side and you’re done!
