How to Ghost a Picture in Photoshop

In this tutorial, we will learn how to ghost a picture. Ghosting a picture means that you will be giving someone in the picture a ghostly look.

You will need:
Step 1
Start with opening the picture.

We will convert this picture into a Smart Object by pressing the small menu icon in the Layers panel and selecting ‘Convert to Smart Object’ option.

Step 2
Now, go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and use the settings shown below.

Step 3
Now, select the Smart Filter’s mask by clicking on its thumbnail.

Select the Brush Tool, press D and then press X to set black as the foreground color. Also, lower the brush’s opacity to 25%.

Right-click on the image to open the Brush Preset picker and select a soft-edge, round brush.

Now, paint over the areas of the picture you to make visible through the motion blur effect like the girl’s mouth, nose, eyes and some of her hair.

Step 4
Once again, click on the small menu icon in the Layers palette and select ‘Convert to Smart Object’.

Now, go to Filter > Filter Gallery, choose Diffuse Glow from the Distort folder and use the settings shown below.

Now, double-click on the Blending Options icon and lower the opacity to 90%.

Step 5
Now, add a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer by going to the Adjustments panel and clicking on the Hue/Saturation icon.

Go to Photoshop’s Properties panel and make the following changes to the Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.

Change the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer’s blending mode to Color and lower its opacity to 60%.

And we’re done!
