Dying dad won’t live to see newborn baby. Then Mom ‘speeds’ up pregnancy

A couple of years ago, the 52-year-old Mark Augler was diagnosed with a terrible form of lung cancer. He immediately received treatment, but tragically that treatment caused pulmonary fibrosis. The chemotherapy that Mark underwent didn’t only destroy the cancerous cells but deteriorated his good and healthy cells as well.
The one thing that saved him from his lung cancer was also the thing that would end up destroying his vital organs.

“It was basically like his lungs were soaked in concrete. They couldn’t inhale; they couldn’t pass oxygen through the body. He was, in essence, suffocating to death,” Diana told to KCTV 5 News.
Diana was expecting a child very soon, but it appeared that Mike would pass away before his daughter was born. That’s why Diane talked to the doctors and they wanted to bring the labor up a bit early if Mike’s condition worsened.
The heartbreaking diagnosis fell in February when Mark was told that he had just days to live. That’s why the loving couple decided to speed the pregnancy up by just a little, and the adorable and beautiful Savanah Augler was born.

“He got to be the first one to hold her. He held her for 45 minutes after she was born,” Diane said.
Diane captured the heartwarming moment between father and daughter on tape and Mark couldn’t have wished more than welcome his baby girl to the world.
A couple of days afterward, Mark’s condition took a turn for the worse. He slipped into a coma and after 48 hours of being comatose, Diane saw that his vitals were declining.
She put Savanah in his arms and held one of his hands.
“His heart rate started to drop, his breathing started to drop, I put her in his arms and I held his hand until he died.”

Mark is heavily missed by his wife and his children, but they live happily in honor of their father as that’s what he would’ve wanted.
“The kids go on as if dad is really still here,” she said. “My kids still tell jokes how they would when he was around. He would have been a wonderful daddy to Savanah.”
